Recount about the film festival

Waking up knowing that I already given my permission slip made me feel confident for the fact that I was all organised such as my school uniform for school, I decided to get dropped off because the weather wasn't so fine, furthermore I was running late. I told my mum if she could drop me off to school because it would be faster for me to arrive to school for the Manaiakalani film festival.

Just arriving to school made me think about the Manaiakalani film festival, meanwhile time was going fast but I still had to wait until it was 11:30. While time was passing by I decided to ask my friends if the Manaiakalani film festival was good last year since I didn't go to the the ‘one last year’. Some reason I felt really intense because I knew that we would be arriving to the film festival in seconds.

Knowing that it was nearly a 11:30, our teacher told our class to line up in two lines, boys line, and girls line. Just walking outside seeing 4 buses passing by our school made me no that it was time to walk over near to the buses. This meant that we had just arrived near to the bus. We walked onto the bus, finding spaces to sit. I decided to sit with Mao on the bus.
Later that moment we sat down and watched the other classes join the bus with our class which was class 3.

As soon as we arrived at sylvia park we were looking at all these other schools arrive for the Manaiakalani film festival. Meanwhile we had to hope out of the buses and walk over to the synonymous. Firstly we hopped out of the bus, then walk into the enter, entrance. We had then got a instruction saying go to the movies entrance door. This meant that we had arrived to the synonymous just on time.

Going into the door where the movie took place. we started watching all sorts of clips of each class doing our own class movies, but there was a twist to it there we people to introduce their movie, there explained parts of the movies but not exactly all of it.
As soon as they started their first movie made me feel like my time has come all the way to this moment.

My favourite part of the film festival was the bowl cut because, there was just so much entertaining and furthermore there was just a lot of joy into the movie that they had made.

How to make a celtic knot

The first step for making a celtic knot is to research the patterns that you want to draw onto you peace of paper. For your celtic knot you will then need to select three people in a group so you can each have your own pattern in you celtic knots to represent that you were part of the group, meanwhile when you have then decided the pattern that you want to do for your celtic knot you will then want to decide where you want your design to go.

Once you have thought about what pattern you want to do for your celtic knot,
you will then want to start sketching your pattern inside your celtic knot. You would want to draw your pattern carefully so that it looks like you have contributed in the group sensibly. when you're doing your celtic knot you  would want to discuss with your group what kind of patterns that you think suits you and your group.

Having your discussion with your group you would want to go over your patterns or designing with vivid, this will help you because you would have a great out line of vivid… you would want to make sure that the vivid is black. Going over your patterns with vived you would want to make sure you choose colors that at least match with your group, at this point you would want to start discussing about what each other will do in their celtic knot.

If you have finally decided doing your colors… you would want to previously want to color in your celtic knot with  (pastels). You would want to do this for the fact that the colors will combine or stand out more clearly....this means that you will have to go over your celtic knot with just the colors that you think suits your celtic knot.

Finally, once you have done doing your coloring in you will need to combine all 3 of you celtic knots together. Then once you have combined them together you will have a beautiful celtic knot...

Reading about kowhaiwhai

What is Kowhaiwhai?

Kowhaiwhai are beautiful painted design patterns. At first, kowhaiwhai patterns can be viewed as decoration only, but closer examination shows that they involve sophisticated mathematical precision.  These patterns include symmetry, rotation, reflection and translation.

The koru or pitau is the most basic design element of kowhaiwhai. These are curving stalks with bulbs at one end. They bear a striking resemblance to the young shoot of a native fern.

After the koru or pitau, the next main motif or pattern of kowhaiwhai is the crescent or kape. This  is characterised by a line of evenly placed white circles on the outer edge of the crescent.

The koru or pitau and the kape, are all that make up the list of basic kowhaiwhai motifs. However when used in various combinations these two patterns can create many varying designs of incredible depth.

1. Why does it say that kowhaiwhai are more than just decoration?
Because each pattern has a meaning and its not just simple they have
beautiful painted designs that are used to make kowhaiwhai.

2. Describe the two main patterns of kowhaiwhai?
A koru is a spiral shape that is used in kowhaiwhai and koru
can be used over and over on each kowhaiwhai.

An Artform

Stories that explain the origin of kowhaiwhai all say that it is an art form secondary in importance to  woodcarving (whakairo) and tattooing (ta moko). When kowhaiwhai is compared to wood-carving and tattooing, there are several contrasts.  Apart from the obvious differences of how they are created, kowhaiwhai is seen as something more temporary. It is not seen as having  lasting value, so requires no special ritual and no formal training. It is considered to be a common (noa) activity and so therefore, can be carried out by anyone.

The colours red, black and white are often the only colours that appear in kowhaiwhai patterns. Red was obtained by mixing red ochre with shark-liver oil.  Black paint was made by mixing shark oil with powdered charcoal. For white paint, taioma or pipeclay was burned then pulverised and mixed with oil.

3. Why is kowhaiwhai seen as less important than whakairo and ta moko?
Because its compared to tattooing and wood carving so they are
technically compared as a whakairo and moko as more important.

4. Do you think whakairo and ta moko was carried out by anyone?
Yes because there are also other people that also do kowhaiwhai
for their own places in New zealand.

Origins

One oral account from Ngati Kahungunu, traces the origin of both wood-carving and kowhaiwhai. It tells us that:

When Whiro, Haepuru and Haematua climbed up to the second heaven to obtain carvings for their house, they were told by one of the gods that the art of decorating houses with wood carvings had already been taken away by their younger brothers. Whiro and his two friends complained to the god that they could not go begging to their younger brothers for the art, so the god showed them how to embellish a house with painted designs.
Whiro and the others then descended and adorned their own house with painted designs.( Best (1982:287-8…)

5. Why couldn't Whiro, Haepuru and Haemata get carvings for their house?

6a. sophisticated

Look at these words in the article and see if you can work out their meaning from the context. Then look up and write down the definition from the dictionary

Precision:          Being exactly the same and a curate
Resemblance    A state of resemblance of being alike
Motif                  A decoration or pattern
Secondary        Means that you are less important than.
Temporary        lasting for a long period of time
Pulverised         reduced to fine particles
Obtained           something
Embellished       make something or make it attractive
Adorn                 make something more beautiful or attractive

Triangle addition

What I did in my holidays

Realizing that I had just finished school, and it was friday, yes friday the last day of school this means I have the time off school. In my holidays my mum decided to go Rainbows-End. She told the rest of my family to come but instead of just going in the morning we decided to go at night.

There was a loud bang on the door ‘bang, bang, bang’ Three big knocks on the door.
I knew instantly that it was my family because it was just so obvious, only they would come at that time which was night time. I would have opened the door like my brother told me to but I was too busy struggling... trying to find suitable clothes for Rainbow-End. I was already in agony for some reason I was especially nerves for the fact that My family was already except for me making me feel like I should of got organised the day before.

Come to think of it, when I found my clothes the last minute later
there was another problem that happened that occurred to me… the
problem was I didn’t know what shoes to wear and on top of it I couldn't find
any of my shoes. This made me feel like a purple cow being the odd one out because
I couldn’t find any shoes but eventually I found my matching pair.

As my hand gripped onto the car door we decided to go straight away to
Rainbows End and eat later. We finally arrived silently out of the car, strolling
past the ticket man because we had booked it online. Just going through the entrance
had gave me chills just feeling the breeze going down my spine.

Just looking at the rides made me  just want to go turn back to the entrance and go back home...but is the same time I wanted to go because there was a new ride that has came out, it was called Stratosfear the stratosfear is now me and my brothers favourite ride so far. Since we were already through the enttrence we decided to go in the stratisfear first since it wasn’t such a long line.

Immersion Assembly

On monday the 13th of October,

I was with my class looking around thinking
we have Immersion assembly, since we had to
go to the hall I noticed that the teachers were all
dressed up acting as art characters, The theme was
art attack. It started of with Mr. Bert doing a introduction
of what we were doing for term 4… There was teams such as
team, 1 team 2 , team 3, team 4 , and lastly team 5. Team five was
my favourite for the fact that they did a portrait upside down, there was
two people doing a portrait each, and there was only 3 portraits and that was my favourite.

The malfunction of the fireworks

NZRFU to stop fireworks at games
People who got burned from the crowed
Saturday 23 of August
Recently there have been speculations about New Zealand's Rugby Union game. Steve Tew announced that all fireworks will be suspended, as there has been a spectator that has gone  to hospital, after she was hit by this debris from the fireworks. leaving two other people with agonising eyes. The misfire at the rugby union game, was between the All blacks and the Wallabies, at eden park. As the fireworks set off there was a malfunction blast of fire, during the All blacks haka, leading the crowd screaming.

Steve Tew vocalized that all fireworks that are displayed are off until the case is known…
as the fireworks made the crowed in consternation…  Steve-Tew apologies because the fireworks didn’t work out how they thought it would be. As they decided to have the fireworks during the All blacks haka, while this happened there was a huge hit of misfire that had carried onto their eyes.

Life education

Drugs and alcohol are chemicals that make damage to your, heart,  brain,
and also they can take over your organs. If you ever take drugs or alcohol  it
would change how a human's body works…

Since harold has finished. I now know the purpose of how drugs and alcohol can hurt your family and yourself. Having the addiction can cause serious anger into your life because your body is not fully developed as your brain can only take only one if you have not been fully grown up. if this does happen this can cause you to have slow reactions as the alcohol or drugs can take over your brain signals.

For the last past few week have been discussing how you can start to be addicted…
and this can be caused just by your friends, as they have been asking people to buy this
product as they are trying to get money doing this can lead to serious danger and your brain
is telling yourself to have more and more. If your body tries to have drugs or alcohol for the first time you could possibly die from the decision that you have made, If you choose to ever have alcohol or drugs it is best to think what would happen if you do this… think about the addiction and how it hurts people, and if you watched the videos with harold you could see how bad it became.

If you have ever been sore or sick you would probably take medicine, you already
no about the type of drugs that can be used in there such as chemicals.
If you are talking about the legal bad drugs then those are the ones that can
change the way that your body works such as damage to all your body… it is good
for you to know before you even go near drugs or alcohol there are chemicals that make your
brain signal of, when this happens and you get really bad and you get hurt you won't be feeling anything to the next day.

Your brain can only signal so much for instance if you would go have
alcohol you brain can only take over one drink but that is only when your body is fully developed
so if you have more than two,  the alcohol goes then through you body and then goes to the brain and make it not fully work...

Going lift education made me learn to have really get decision and think
about how bad things can get… Seeing how all these people got hurt made me
think about what it would do to my family

reading football

Referring to the title of the text what do you think the article is about?
I would say it is about a football game that they would go to maybe every
saturday. I would recommend this as it says saturday and once you have game
on a certain day you would have all your games on that day.

Why do Saturday’s start early for Alice?
To get to the ground early to prepare for the game so that if
another team came I guess they would have the first spot to
choose from, because they can choose a spot that is just right for them.

What does Alice enjoy being a part of, for what reason do you believe she enjoys this?
She enjoys being in the backline while her team is arriving to train
as they are getting busy setting up that goals.

What does the goal weigh? What do you think Ashleigh is doing when she says this. Think about if the goal were to literally weigh this, would it be even possible for Ashleigh to lift it?
Ashleigh said that the goal weighs a ton but she means that it seems heavy
to her. If this actually was a ton she wouldn’t be able to lift it as it would be to
heavy for her it would be impossible.

How do you think the girls are feeling prior to their game?
Probably because they are nerves because they haven’t played
them before and so this means that this is their first time against them
so they would think that they are maybe a really good game.

Put yourself in their shoes, how would you feeling/ how do you feel before playing a netball or rugby game?
I would feel good because you only know how they play once you versus them.
And if they are a really good player and you can see that she/he has potential then
you can get tips from then so that in your next game you can play with them.

“Jessica jumps high and deflects the ball” what does this mean?
This means that you are changing directions because your body
is interposing.

What are the girls doing prior to their game starting?
They are trying to kick the ball away from their opponent so that they can help
their own team to get a try. Because if you don't try and get the ball of the other team there
is less luck that your team will win.

Refer to the images at the top of page 6. For what reason are they doing this?
They are taking turns on being goalkeeper while the rest of the team
fire kick the balls into the goal… so that they can win.

Frank urges the girls to not give up, what does it mean when you urge someone to do something?
It means they have to do somthing so for example
Can you make me a malo so this means you urge them]
to make or do something.

In most sports games there is always a referee, what is the role of the referee?
To make sure they are playing they are playing right in the right time
so that they can not cheat, referees can make you game better because without
your reef you have no game so it is best to have a reef,

Why is a referee so important?
They are so important because without them you
can’t have a game so it is best to have a reef during
your game and also it makes us play properly.

What are three very important characters a person needs to have to be part of a sports team.
They need to be sporty have great attitude to your
team even if they are not so great at playing and show
that you care for your team and you need cooperation.

Who is Cara Telea, state five facts about her.
1. she played football
2. She good at getting goals
3. She is good at talking to her team
4. She is good at still playing and not being scared
5. She has heaps of friends

From reading the text, do you think soccer is a difficult game to play? Why/why not.
I would say it is half half because it’s up to the team you are versing and
how you play because if you have played soccer heaps then you are most
likely good at soccer.

Why do you think soccer is more popular in some countries instead of some others?
Because other countries like other sports
and also because some people prefer different
sports because people are all different.

Who is a famous soccer player, state five facts about them.
Neyma
he is 21
he is from brazil
he is good at winning
he is good at getting goals
